Powerful Recording to Go

Recording music has changed so much from when people were using records and then magnetic tape, but now everything is for the most part becoming digital (Great article on choosing the right mic). One of the hardest things can be to decide what mic to use to get the perfect sound for the job. I’ve recorded with many different devices such as: an iPhone, laptop built in mic, an MXL studio condenser mic, and a number of generic models in between. Whether you’re doing Foley recording for a movie, show, commercial, or just recording vocals for a song, one of the most versatile and user friendly microphones I’ve purchased to date is the H2n Handy Recorder by ZOOM.
Without breaking the bank, the H2n is able to record such clear direct sound eliminating virtually all background noises causing interference and ruining your recording. It doesn’t have a lot of disk space on its own, but there is an SD/SDHC card slot that allows up to a 32GB memory card that can give you up to 555 hours of recording! This device uses only two AA batteries, which last around 50 hours of straight recording and you can even plug it via USB to charge it as well.
That USB can be used to transfer data and even doubles as a connection to use as a mic to your computer for use in a DAW. Never miss a cool sound you happen to find going about your day with this compact powerful recording device. Use it to record interviews or collect a variety of sound effects, easily allowing the ability to edit and name files directly on the device.
There may be a lot of selections with that mic, but it isn’t of course a “cure all.” If you want to record some serious sounds for big money projects, I suggest spending some extra money on a more specific mic for optimum results. In this day in age, it never hurts to be prepared for anything when it comes to recording.
